Friday 6 September took Boston Consulting Group, building 26, as tradition gradually prescribes once every semester. Here they gave their take on the best undergraduate project from F13. Read on and find out who won.
The living room, building 26 A frightening place for a baby, a newly graduated Bachelor in Economics. Everywhere around him has pundits. There are potentially two possible feelings for polit. students when facing this place. Either you are stimulated by the high financial capabilities we are surrounded by, or sweat it out of fear that a door springs open and are questioned in everything from convergent series for the Danish tax evasion. The young people who have turned up this 6 September 2013, probably belongs to the first group. Crème de la crème, the paretooptimale, arg max for the government's educational - nominees are they, anyway.
Boston Consulting Group Best Undergraduate Award B oston Consulting Group (BCG), the avascent group each semester the award for best bachelor thesis. The award consists of credit and tens of thousands of lovely Danish kroner. Candidates are not randomly selected, and BCG have not read all semester projects through. Bachelor counselors nominate himself for the projects they deem appropriate to participate in the battle for the price. This semester, there was a single group among the nominees, as seven projects and eight students were nominated. The select group and their projects (note people have to be nice to let us have them for download), were as follows:
Andreas Björnsson The electoral cycle in manipulated deficits, v. David Dreyer Lassen (download paper) Niels Juul Steensgaard spectrum allocation, v. John Frederiksen (download paper) Meir Szlenski Eurobor manipulation - A theoretical and empirical analysis, by Peter Norman Sorensen (download task) Anders Videbaek The fundamentals of tacit collusion, v. Price Today, coming Mette Gørtz that starts with taking the floor. The new studies point out that it is the first time she stands as a representative of the study by the competition, but that you have previously appreciated the event, and will continue to do so. The award is a recognition of the independent work inherent in a project such as a bachelor or specialty, and here backs up the study.
After the program director takes over BCG as usual podium. Ask Holme was this time speaking representative of the consulting firm, and was also joined by Louise Herrup Nielsen. Have you read about in previous dispensations will eventually told that the price will be given to those who genuinely meets the goals of the show: sharp analytical skills, good writing skills and creativity. Ask Holme go for a small description of these goals directly to the highlight of the day: picking the avascent group of the winner. Bachelor project dealt with the fiscal multiplier was written in a good language was enormously thorough and interesting to read. By looking at the above list, it is clear to everyone that the winner was the only group in the area.
Of course it is great to get the award for best bachelor thesis. When you have spent much time on a task, then it's really delicious with an extra pat on the back and know that others think about the product.
As little is in the title, so we tried to estimate the effect on GDP of increased public spending in Denmark. We have done this by using two different methods, the avascent group which we actually achieve very similar results across methods but within each list. In addition to different model specifications the avascent group we also studied the effects of a shorter period, where there was better public finances and the Danish fixed exchange rate policy had been older.
It's been really exciting. It's a self-selected topic and the extra interest has made it much easier to work with the project. It has also been fun, but also challenging because you suddenly faced with an independent problem where the answer is not a foregone conclusion.
When two on such a project, one can exploit the opportunities of dialogue in many parts of the workflow. It creates some more thought, as there may be angles / questions that you had not thought of hedging.
